Health District Board Appoints New Executive Director Following Unanimous Vote

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fort Collins, CO (February 5, 2026) — The Board of Directors of the Health District is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Ferrans as the organization’s new Executive Director. The vote was unanimous in selecting Ferrans, with the Board citing his strong alignment with the organization’s mission, culture, values and future direction.

Board members made their decision after thoughtful interactions with the candidates and careful consideration of staff, community and stakeholder feedback gathered through multiple methods.

“We’re confident that Brian brings the right combination of leadership style, experience and cultural fit to meet the moment,” said Board President Erin Hottenstein. “He understands the Health District's work and the importance of leading with integrity by bringing a collaborative approach that supports both our people and our mission.”

Ferrans currently serves as the deputy executive director with SummitStone Health Partners, where he is responsible for leading and operating a 24/7 acute crisis services facility with a staff of more than 225 full-time employees.

Ferrans will be returning to the Health District, where he led the Community Impact team until 2021. During his tenure, he developed community health improvement projects, including those around behavioral health, health equity and substance use disorder.

Ferrans has also served as vice chair on the Outreach Fort Collins Board of Directors, as a steering committee member for Northern Colorado Collaborative for Addiction and Recovery Services, and as a steering committee member for the Larimer County Integrated Network of Care.

Known for his community-centered approach and inclusive leadership, Ferrans is well-positioned to build on the organization’s momentum while strengthening its internal culture and external impact.

“I’m honored by the Board’s confidence and grateful for the many voices that contributed to this decision,” said Ferrans. “I’m excited to help lead and support the Health District into its next chapter, working alongside our talented staff and community partners in a way that reflects our shared values, strengthens access for the whole community and ensures our services meet the evolving needs of northern Larimer County.”

Ferrans will begin as executive director of the Health District on March 23rd.
