Compass honored for writing and design

Compass has taken top honors in a National Federation of Press Women (NFPW) competition for the article "The Healing Side of Technology" from the spring 2017 issue. The article won first place in the 2018 National Communications Contest for news story in a magazine, newsletter, or other non-newspaper print publication.

The article previously garnered a first-place finish at a NFPW state-level competition, while another story, "Piecing Together the Puzzle of Youth Mental Illness" from the winter 2017 issue, finished first in the feature story category. Both articles were written by Compass editor and NFPW member Julie Estlick.

Compass also was recognized for its overall design, with graphic designer Kristen Gilbert earning first place in the at-large competition in the state competition and honorable mention in the national contest.

The National Federation of Press Women is a nationwide organization of professional communicators, women and men, in the fields of print and broadcast journalism, public relations, marketing, advertising, freelancing, graphic design, digital media, and photography.
