Larimer health connect FAQs

You don’t have to navigate health insurance coverage alone

Health insurance can feel complicated and overwhelming, especially when you’re trying to balance your health, your budget and your family’s needs. Our community members aren’t always sure where to start or whether they’re choosing the best option for their situation.

That’s exactly why Larimer Health Connect exists.

You deserve access to coverage that fits your life, so Larimer Health Connect’s health coverage guides are here to walk you through your options for free so you can feel confident about your decisions.

Who can use your services?

Anyone. We help individuals and families in Colorado who currently:

  • Have no health insurance
  • Bought insurance through the Connect for Health Colorado and need to review a plan before renewing
  • Buy their own health insurance
  • Have Health First Colorado (Medicaid) or CHP+ and need help with your coverage. We can help you apply for coverage, complete a renewal, or report changes to income or household size
  • Are eligible to enroll in Medicare

Where can I find trusted health insurance information for the Colorado Marketplace?

The best place to go is Connect for Health Colorado, the state's official health insurance marketplace. We can also help you understand and navigate your health insurance options with free, unbiased assistance.

You may come across websites that look similar and offer free quotes in exchange for your contact information. We want you to be covered with real insurance that will be there when you need it. If you’re shopping for coverage, take a moment to verify that you’re working with legitimate sources. We’re here to help you do that safely.

How can you provide services for free?

We’re a special government district. That means we’re funded by local taxpayer dollars, as well as a grant from Connect for Health Colorado, so our focus can be on supporting the health of the community rather than making a profit. Our funding allows us to offer free coverage guidance to help people understand their options, avoid gaps in coverage and get connected to the care they need.

What is a health coverage guide?

A health coverage guide is a trained, certified professional who provides free, in-person or virtual help to residents shopping for and enrolling in health insurance. They can:

  • Review affordable health insurance plan options that best fit your needs
  • Explain your costs
  • Help you complete your application for Health First Colorado (Medicaid)
  • Help you apply for Medicare

Do your guides have an incentive to recommend certain insurance plans over others?

No. Our Health Coverage Guides do not receive commissions or other compensation from insurance companies. We provide free, unbiased assistance to help people understand their health coverage options, compare plans, apply for coverage or financial assistance, and make informed decisions based on their needs and budget.

What is Open Enrollment?

The Open Enrollment period is when you can sign up for a health insurance plan. It only happens once a year, from November 1st through mid-January.

However, if you’re eligible, you can enroll in Health First Colorado (Medicaid) or Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) throughout the year.

I just lost my job and insurance. How can I get coverage?

If you lose your health coverage, you have a 60-day window to sign up for new insurance through a special enrollment period. This kicks in when you have a big life change—like losing job-based coverage, getting married or having a baby.

I got a notice that my coverage was changing. Is this from Larimer Health Connect?

Larimer Health Connect does not send notices about changes to your health coverage. You may receive notices from the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy & Financing (HCPF) or your local Department of Human Services about your coverage. Larimer Health Connect is a Certified Application Assistance Site that provides free, unbiased help understanding your health coverage options, applying for coverage, and finding out if you qualify for financial assistance.

Be aware that some of these notices and messages may not be legitimate, and are actually scams designed to look like they’re coming from real health insurance agencies. Bring any letters, emails or other correspondence you’ve received to your appointment, and we can help you review them and figure out what’s real and what steps, if any, you need to take.

What do I need to know about recent federal health coverage changes?

Coverage changes connected to federal policy could affect costs, eligibility, financial help and plan options for families. Our guides will walk through changes with you, answering questions and helping you understand your options in plain language.

What if I can't make an in-person appointment or would prefer to meet virtually?

We’re happy to go through your coverage options virtually through a Zoom appointment. We’ll also walk you through Zoom if you’re not familiar with how it works.

Do you have accommodations for disabilities?

Yes. Call us so we can discuss your individual situation at 970-472-0444

What if transportation to or from appointments is an issue?

Contact us to discuss how we can help.

Are translation and interpretation services available for patients who don't speak English?

Yes, the Health District is committed to ensuring that all patients and clients, regardless of the language they use to communicate, have meaningful access to our services for free. If you need interpretation services or translated materials, please let us know.
