Want to learn more about healthy cooking or weight control?
Want to join a group to quit smoking? Check out the
classes below! Classes are held
at the Health District office, 120 Bristlecone Drive in Fort Collins, unless
otherwise noted. For classes with fees, discounts are
available depending on income.

Cooking classes
Fast, Fresh and Flavorful
Farm to Table
Sept. 11
Choose one session: Noon
– 1:30 p.m. or 6
– 7:30 p.m.
This time of year,
farmer's markets are full of produce bursting with luscious flavors and
lovely fall colors. In this class, you'll learn how to select, prepare and
enjoy this season's bountiful harvest of fresh fruits and vegetables as we
prepare delicious seasonal dishes. We will also talk about the importance
of supporting our local farmers and local economy. Register by
Sept. 9. Cost: $10 per
person.
Healthy Weighs
Tuesdays, Sept. 16 –
Dec. 9
No class Nov. 25
Choose one session: 10 a.m.
– noon or 5:30 –
7:30 p.m.
Running low on energy? Your
meals might need a tune-up. Healthy Weighs can show you how to make
delicious and nutritious food choices that boost your energy as well as
help you maintain a healthy weight. Healthy eating can be quick and easy.
Not a fad diet, but a lifelong approach to eating well that can help you
improve your overall health. Includes 12 weeks of classes/group support, 6
visits with a registered dietitian, and healthy food and recipes to try.
Cost:
$19 - $190, depending on income.
Sign up with a friend and both of you get half your fee back. Both
participants must be Health District residents and complete the program.
Quit Smoking Class
Thursdays, Sept. 4 – July 10, 6:30 - 8:00p.m.
Our tobacco cessation counselors assist adults in
quitting or cutting down their tobacco use. They will help you develop and
implement a plan that will maximize your chances of success. Programs for
individuals or groups are available. Both feature counseling and nicotine
replacement therapy (NRT) in the form of gum, patches or lozenges where appropriate.
Participants get free NRT while enrolled.
Those interested are asked to
meet with a counselor in advance of the first class to determine if this
approach is best suited to meet their needs and, if so, to register. Call
224-5209. A smoking cessation counselor will facilitate the course with
support from a dietitian.
Cost: $10 - $100, depending on income for residents of northern Larimer
County. Those who complete the program get a 50 percent rebate of their
initial fee.
