Candidate profiles/forum
The Health District is governed by a
five-member board of directors whose members serve staggered, four-year
terms. Members are elected at-large from the community. Elections are held
every two years in even-numbered years.

Any eligible elector in the Health District may run for the board.
This year
six people
have declared their candidacy for the board. They will compete for two open
seats in an election to be held May 6. Running are Bernard Birnbaum,
35, family physician; Rich Fisher, 58, environmental consultant;
John Hanck, 64, general dentist; Elizabeth Kelly, 50, contract
administrator; Steven Main, 53, paramedic and supervisor with Poudre
Valley Hospitals EMS service; and Steven Thorson, 61, family
physician. All are residents of Fort Collins.

Who can be a candidate in this election? |
A candidate for the board of directors must
be an eligible elector in the Health
District.

How do I become a candidate? |
Candidate nomination forms are available Monday through
Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Health District, 120 Bristlecone Dr.,
Fort Collins. The first day to turn in nomination
forms is Feb. 6. Nomination forms must be returned to the Health
District by 5 p.m. on Feb. 29.

Can I run as a write-in candidate? |
Anyone wanting to run as a write-in candidate must submit a write-in
candidate affidavit of intent (also available at the Health District) by
5 p.m. on March 3.

Who can vote in this
election? |
To vote for board members, a
person must be an eligible elector
in the district. An eligible elector is
someone who is:
Registered to vote in Colorado; and
A resident of the district for not less than
30 days, or someone who owns, or whose spouse owns, taxable real or personal property
within the district, regardless of whether he or she lives in the district. See map and description of boundaries

When is the election and
where can I vote? |
Election
Day is May
6. Polls are open 7 a.m. -
7 p.m. that day.

year, there will be no early voting due to state law restrictions that
apply to special district elections.

How do I request an absentee voter ballot? |
Absentee
ballot is now called mail-in ballot. Voters may request a mail-in
ballot for this election by

Judy Robison-Bullard, the designated election official for the Health
District, at (970) 224-5209 or by clicking on the
above email link. You can also download an
application for mail-in ballot. An application also will be printed in
the spring issue of the Health District Compass newsletter mailed
to district residents the last week of March.
Applications for a mail-in ballot must be signed and
returned to the Health District by April 29 to receive the ballot by mail, or by
May 2 if it will be picked up
at the Health District.

the spring issue of the Health District Compass newsletter mailed
to district residents the last week of March.

Will there be a televised candidates forum
as in previous years? |
The
Health District, in conjunction with the League of Women Voters of
Larimer County and the City of Fort Collins, will host a candidates
forum Monday, April 14, 7 p.m., in the Fort Collins City Council
Chambers, 300 LaPorte Ave. The pubic is invited to attend. It will be
videotaped for later showing.
