Free cholesterol tests available year-round

The Health District is now offering free cholesterol testing year-round to all people living within district boundaries. Health District boundaries cover the northern two-thirds of Larimer County and include Fort Collins, Laporte, Wellington, Red Feather Lakes, Livermore, Bellvue and Timnath.

Cholesterol testing was previously $15, but free during February and September and for those receiving their first test. The cost for people living outside the Health District will still be $15.

The free tests include readings for total cholesterol, LDL (bad cholesterol), HDL (good cholesterol), triglycerides, and glucose, in addition to a blood-pressure check and interpretation of results by a registered nurse. Results are available in 25 minutes. An 8-hour fast is recommended for the most accurate results.

Testing is available by appointment twice-weekly at a variety of convenient community locations. For a list of upcoming dates and locations for cholesterol testing, people can visit healthdistrict.org/heart or call the Health District at 970-224-5209.

The Health District is a public agency that provides residents of northern Larimer County with dental, mental health, preventive health, and advance care planning services, in addition to connecting people to more affordable health insurance and prescription options.
