"Community at Work" radio shows on KRFC

Tune in to KRFC, 88.9 FM each Thursday 6 - 6:30  p.m. for "Community At Work," a show that provides insight into issues that affect your community by providing a closer look at the public agencies serving you.

Hosting of the half-hour show rotates among the Health District, City of Fort Collins, Larimer County and the U.S. Forest Service. Richard Cox and Nancy Nichols host the program for the Health District on the first Thursday of each month.

2011

Nov. 3 — Chelsea Williams and Jillian Jetter, public health associates with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, discuss the Public Health Associate Program and their two-year placements at the Health District.

Oct. 6 — Lori Daigle and Marisa Martinez of the newly renamed Alliance for Suicide Prevention discuss what their organization is doing to increase awareness and decrease the stigma of suicide in Larimer County.

July 7 — Bill Patterson, Taylor Cobb and Jessica Eckhardt of Volunteers of America discuss VOA programs that enhance the health of seniors in our community.

June 2 - The Health District is available to help families sign up for Medicaid and Child Health Plan Plus, and Rosie Duran tells how easy it is.

May 5 — Kim Sharpe of the Healthier Communities Coalition of Larimer County describes key priorities of the coalition and the Health District's involvement with the coalition to improve community health.

Feb. 3 — It's American Heart Month and Health District cardiovascular nurse Cheri Nichols tells how important -- and easy -- it is to get your cholesterol checked.

Jan. 6 — Stop-smoking coach Norma Pomerleau describes the Health District's Step Free tobacco cessation program.

 

2010

Dec. 2A new program coordinated by the Health District is helping provide badly needed dental care to local residents  with disabilities. Resource development coordinator Jim Becker explains.

Nov. 4 — Tracy Schwartz of Neighbor to Neighbor explains the connection between affordable housing and good health.

Oct. 7 — Dental hygienist Bev Sleight, of the Health District's Family Dental Clinic, discusses the importance of good oral healthcare in children. Also Rosie Duran talks about new Health District efforts to enroll children in Medicaid and CHP+.

Sept. 2 — Every three years the Health District conducts a major health survey in the community. This year it's survey time again, and evaluation coordinator Sue Hewitt discusses what's new.

Aug. 5 A repeat of the May 6 show on medical homes featuring Dr. Janet Seeley, of the Larimer County Medical Society, and Kim Sharpe, of the Healthier Communities Coalition of Larimer County.

July 29 The Prescription Assistance program has been helping people obtain their prescription medicine since 1996. Health District clinical services director John Newman provides an update on the popular program.

July 1 Dee Colombini, coordinator of the Connections program, talks about the services available from this mental health and substance abuse resource center in Fort Collins.

June 3 — Chandra Klein from the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment talks about immunizations for adults.

Sept. 11 — Safe Kids Larimer County is one of several local efforts aimed at reducing accidental death and injury. Janet Werst, injury prevention coordinator for Poudre Valley Health System talks about ways our community is staying safe.

June 12 — Early analysis of the Health District's 2007 Community Health Survey is available, and evaluation specialist Kendra Bigsby explains what it all means.

May 8 — Guest Laura Schwartz talks about the Integrated Care program that places mental health professionals in two the area's safety-net clinics.

April 10 — For more than a decade, the Healthier Communities Coalition of Larimer County has worked to improve the health and well-being of area residents, focusing most recently on children and youth. Coordinator Kim Sharpe gives an update on the work of this broad-based alliance.

March 13 — Outgoing Health District board president Averil Strand shares her thoughts on the work of the agency.
