Remember the last time
you had a bad toothache?

Now, try to imagine having 4 problem teeth
and not being able to communicate to those
who care for you that you are in pain.

"James" is a young adult with a developmental disability who is unable to communicate verbally. One day James started hitting himself in his face, worrying his family. After managing to get an appointment with a dentist, it became clear that James had a broken and abscessed tooth that was causing him intense pain.

Because of James' disability, he was too afraid of the dentist to let him work on his tooth while awake. The only way he could receive the dental care he needed was under general anesthesia. His family and caregivers worked diligently to find a dentist able to help him, but the only one they could find had an office 3 hours away and would not have an appointment available for 4 or 5 months.

It is an urgent priority to develop local, timely care for the estimated 100 to 150 adults in Larimer County with disabilities, like James, who must receive dental care under general anesthesia. Currently, these individuals must live with dental pain for months or even years before obtaining needed care.

We have a solution and need your help...

In 2011, efforts began to serve the backlog of patients currently awaiting care in our community. The solution has been made possible by the dedicated efforts of an innovative community partnership of local dental providers and health and human service providers who are committed to providing dental care for those who require care under general anesthesia.

To continue providing this much-needed care, however, we are in need of funds to purchase necessary dental equipment and materials. Equipment manufacturers and suppliers have indicated that they will help, but more local funding is needed.

This is where you can help...

Your donation will help us be able to provide much-needed dental care and relief to eligible individuals in our community like James.
