TOPIC: Survey to give picture of community health, needs

Our community is due for a checkup, and the Health District needs your help.

In a couple of the weeks, randomly selected residents of Larimer County will begin receiving postcards or phone calls asking them to participate in the Health District’s 2007 Community Health Survey. If you are one of the people chosen, we hope you will take this opportunity to help plan for our community’s future.

This completely confidential survey asks people questions on a variety of health-related topics – everything from whether or not they have insurance, to how many fruits and vegetable they eat.

Conducted every three years, these surveys enable the Health District to develop a detailed picture of the health and health needs of the community. For example, from the last survey we learned that fewer county residents are smoking, but that more people are overweight.

The information helps the Health District design programs and services to help improve the health of the community. Data also is shared with other local organizations.

This year’s survey is supported in part by United Way of Larimer County; Colorado Physical Activity and Nutrition Program and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Division of Health Statistics and Vital Records.

Later this fall, the Health District also will hold a series of community discussion groups where residents can share their views about local health needs.

By participating in either the survey or discussion groups, you can help us create a healthier community.
