TOPIC: Mental Health Partnership Recognized

The Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Partnership of Larimer County has been chosen to appear in this year’s Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Anthology, an annual review of programs supported by the nation’s largest philanthropic organization devoted exclusively to improving the heath and healthcare of all Americans.

Only a few of the many programs and projects that receive funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) are chosen each year for inclusion in the published anthology. Written by some of the country’s leading science and medical writers as well as experts from universities and RWJF, the anthology offers unbiased assessments of areas in which the foundation has chosen to invest its resources.

The Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Partnership of Larimer County represents 36 local organizations seeking to restructure and improve services for the estimated 36,000 people in our community who suffer most from mental illness and substance abuse disorders.

The partnership, which receives staffing and coordination from the Health District, currently is in its fifth year of a $376,000 grant from RWJF. As part of that same grant, local organizations have contributed nearly $700,000 in matching funds.

The anthology report on the partnership can be viewed or downloaded online at www.rwjf.org/files/research/022208brodeuranthology.pdf.
