A collaboration with
Salud Family Health Centers has made it possible for the Health District
of Northern Larimer County to increase its capacity to see patients at its
Family Dental Clinic. “This allows us to increase the number of patients we see who have low incomes and will free up more time for educating patients about good oral health,” said Dr. Dennis Lewis, who oversees the dental clinic. The contract is made possible by a $100,000 federal grant to Salud for dental care for Medicaid recipients. The additional dentist will boost the clinic’s capacity by 2,300 dental visits a year, of which 1,000 will be visits by Medicaid clients. Last year, Salud became a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), paving the way for federal dollars to come into the community. Salud found a natural partner in the Health District, given that the latter has an established dental clinic in close proximity at 202 Bristlecone. In addition to Medicaid, the dental clinic accepts Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) insurance for children and offers a sliding-fee scale for those with low income who have no insurance. Call the clinic at 416-5331. |
